Changing the Future for Fecal and Urinary Incontinence InControl Medical Offers NEW Non-Surgical Solutions: InTone®MV and InTone®

MILWAUKEE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (ACOG) has predicted the number of women who will havepelvic floor disorders will increase from 28.1 million in 2010 to 43.8 million by 2050.The number of women with urinary incontinence (losing urine when they laugh, sneeze or cough) will increase55% from 18.3 million to 28.4 million. For fecal incontinence (FI), the number of affected women willincrease 59% from 10.6 to 16.8 million, and the number of women with pelvic organ prolapse will increase46% from 3.3 to 4.9 million. This forecast is largely due to a change in demographics as baby boomers age and obesity levels increase, a result of childbirth, prior anorectal surgery and bowel issues like Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, adverse reactions to food, constipation with overflow incontinence, etc.

“These are impressive numbers,” saysDr. Lauren Streicher, Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University’s Medical School.“Butthe real concern is that men and women don’t know their options, as they’re too embarrassed to discuss the issue, but even if they do, many health care providers are unaware of the latest treatment options, or may fail to recognize the impact of FI. As a result, people do not receive the help they need and attempt to secretly self-manage the symptoms. Resorting to a future in diapers isn’t the answer. FI is both psychologically and socially debilitating but it is treatable with new, non-surgical options like the InTone line which are effective medical devices that can be used in the privacy of home.”

Aside from the embarrassment, fecal incontinence—or the involuntary loss of bowel contents or expelling an excessive amount of gas—can cause lack of self esteem, lowered confidence, shame, humiliation, depression and isolation for fear of not being able to leave the house or bathroom. The high cost of medication, diapers and pads, infection, soreness and irritation of the skin are all consequences of FI.
