New Clinical Study Shows Pre-Seed®is the Best Lubricant For Couples Wanting to Conceive

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The January 2014 issue ofTheJournal of Assisted Reproduction and Geneticspublished the results of a nine-lubricant study that analyzed the effects of common lubricants on sperm motility, vitality and DNA fragmentation. The article entitled, “The effects of vaginal lubricants on sperm function: an in vitro analysis,”highlights Pre-Seed Fertility-Friendly personal lubricant as the leading lubricant choice for couples who are trying to get pregnant.

“I was very excited to see the results of this independent study, which found that Pre-Seed wassignificantly better at keeping sperm alive and swimming as compared to other lubricants or oils, even among those labeled as ‘sperm-friendly’”

Study authors Alex Mowat, Cora Newton, Clare Boothroyd, Kristy Demmers and Steven Fleming tested a wide array of vaginal lubricants including Sylk™, Conceive Plus®, Johnson’s®Baby Oil, SAGE®Culture Oil, Yes®, Forelife™, MaybeBaby®andPre-Seed®. Metrics such as sperm motility, vitality and DNA fragmentation were compared after sperm was exposed to each of the nine lubricants utilizing positive and negative controls.

The Results:

  • Pre-Seed provided the best results in terms of sperm vitality, at 92%.
  • Pre-Seed had the highest percentage of spermatozoa with progressive motility at 86%.
  • There were no significant effects on DNA integrity with use of Pre-Seed.

“I was very excited to see the results of this independent study, which found that Pre-Seed was significantly better at keeping sperm alive and swimming as compared to other lubricants or oils, even among those labeled as ‘sperm-friendly’,” said Joanna Ellington, inventor of Pre-Seed.

This is the second clinical study in the past 12 months that affirms Pre-Seed is safe for use when trying to conceive. In May 2013, an article inFertility and Sterility(2013; 99, 4) reported similar results from a study titled, “The effect of isotonic lubricants on sperm collection and sperm quality.” In that research report, authorsAshok Agarwal, Ph.D.; Helena Malvezzi, M.S.; and Rakesh Sharma, Ph.D., concluded that “the isotonic lubricant Pre-Seed did not compromise sperm quality as evaluated in an array of sperm assays, suggesting its safe use in fertility patients as required during sperm collection.”

Similarly, the January 2014 study published inTheJournal of Assisted Reproduction and Geneticsdemonstrates that Pre-Seed is safe for sperm. The study authors conclude: “Pre-seed was the lubricant which had the least negative effect on sperm function…due to the significantly higher sperm motility and vitality parameters measured following lubricant exposure.”

The result of this latest clinical study is especially great news for couples who have been trying to conceive (TTC) for more than 6 months. Many TTC couples start searching for helpful fertility aids if they do not get pregnant right away. This research will help couples quickly narrow their list of lubricant choices to Pre-Seed Fertility Friendly personal lubricant.
